Unfortunate family grateful for a speedy home rebuild
Nulex Construction has a commercial & multi-residential focus, however sometimes we will take on something a little different.
This was the case for a recent home insurance project at West Wallsend to rebuild the remains of our clients family home after a devastating fire.
The house on Tramway Drive, West Wallsend, had only been built around two years ago. The family hadn’t been living there for long before their vehicle unexpectedly caught fire in the home’s garage during the night. Extensive damage was caused to the home but luckily the entire family made it out safe and insurance covered the rebuild.
Although it wasn’t the kind of build we usually do, and we knew there would be a variety of things we’d need to approach differently, it was still a custom build with several plan modifications made over the course of the project.
In assessing the damage, we found that an entirely new build wasn’t necessary, and we could reuse the slab as well as 95% of the frame and brickwork. We predicted some of the main problems we would encounter was time constraints and trying to eliminate the smoke smell.
With the creation of a highly detailed plan including a strong programme, we were able to complete the project in just 12 short weeks, which was 3 weeks ahead of schedule.
Weeks of pressure cleaning, airing out and specialised cleaning products were needed before we could begin sheeting. As instructed in the engineers’ report, we redid the garage floor, fixing the discolouration, staining and texture of the concrete with an epoxy process.
In terms of customisation during the rebuild, there were a few client requests to reconfigure some of the internal walls, so we altered the original design of the home to fit their wishes.
This meant the butler’s pantry was extended and the walk-in wardrobe was cut down from an L-shape to a straight walk-in. The walls in the ensuite were also moved as the client wanted this space to be more open.
Clearly, in the short period of time our clients were living in their home before the fire they realised some of the design choices made in the original construction were not as user-friendly as they had expected!
As you can see from the before and after images, our team has made quite a difference in such a short amount of time. We’re happy to have helped this beautiful family and pray tragedy like this never touches them again.
Our clients were over the moon with their newly rebuilt home and expressed their thanks to us through a heart-felt review they wrote us. Click the image below to read it.
