Is your builder licensed?

Choosing a builder or tradesperson is an important step in any project, but the most vital factor is ensuring the person or company you choose is licensed.

By using a licensed builder you can be confident you are working with a legitimate business, the tradespeople have the right qualifications for the job at hand and you are covered by consumer protection rights.

Last year Fair Trading launched a campaign to ‘out’ unlicensed tradespeople, called Check your tradie, check your rights, a campaign Nulex wholeheartedly support!

Nulex Director, Mark Neumann, said that the campaign was a positive step in stamping out poor workmanship and shonky tradespeople.

“Over the years we have been called in to help people who have hired unlicensed tradies and urgently need to fix mistakes or problems,” Mark said.

“We pride ourselves on our high level of workmanship and customer satisfaction, so it can be tough to see people in these situations.”

“Research Fair Trading undertook showed that 80 per cent of home owners said licensing was very important or essential, but then only 10 per cent would do a check.”

“We encourage all of our new clients to do the check, to demonstrate how open and transparent we want to be with them throughout the entire project.”

Consumers have rights and responsibilities when it comes to building and renovation work, which can be viewed at the Fair Trading website.
